The Inbetween Things

So what do we do when we are not hammering down the interstates?  We eat, read, update Quicken accounting software with our purchase receipts, so we can do our taxes.  Unlike in the UK where we have a “PAYE” system (Pay As You Earn) with a flat nation- wide tax rate paid at source by your employer, in the US, everyone, whether employed or self employed, has to file their own taxes, and there are Federal and individual State tax returns which have to be filled out – all of which takes a lot of prep work! We also cook, barbeque, chill, play computer games, surf the net, do trailer housework, take part in RV campsite social activities, shoot the breeze with our neighbouring RVers, and take the odd snooze! Pretty much normal everyday things, really; we are, after all, not just touring, we are living our lives.  In fact, our previously eager desire to see everything of interest as soon as we arrived at a new destination has mellowed.  We are retired, not on holiday, ...

Hot Wheels

The “Great Trek East” began once we dusted off the Jet in Elephant Butte, New Mexico.  Actually that’s not true.  It began on 16 th February in Coaldale, Colorado, and will end on 13 th April, just north of Richmond, Virginia, where we need to be for the wedding of Richard’s son, Steven, to his lovely fiancĂ© Melinda. Please note the mileage on below map is a ball park figure.  I didn’t plot the whole trip properly – and it doesn’t include detours to campsites. After a 9 hour drive from Colorado we were looking forward to our first night in our own bed in our trusty 5 th wheel, and a quick check that the Jet had endured his almost three month sleepover without any failures to his vital systems.  After two restful nights, having checked that the de-winterisation process had worked, with no leaks sprung anywhere, and tyres blown up to correct pressure, we set off for Texas.
